Phagocytosis


What is it?

Phagocytosis is the movement of large particles or whole cells.

Why is it needed by the cell?
Certain cells in animals use pagocytosis to ingest bacteria and viruses that invade the body. Also Phagocytosis feeds many unicellular organisms.

What types of molecules move through the membrane this way?



Bacteria and Viruses, or other molecules that the membrane does not want.
